Fort Jones Community Center
July 27 and 28, 2013

We welcomed a new District Govenor, Lion Maggie Robeson and her cabinet officers:
1st VDG Larry Marcum, 2nd VDG Aron Whealy, Cabinet Secretary Melanie Hunter, and Cabinet Treasurer, Glenn Dunning.

All three of our attending Lions received Certified Guiding Lions Training.
In the breakout sessions we attended the Treasurer, Secretary, and Tail Twister Training Programs.

Under a grant from the Office of Rural Health, the "Heroes Equine Therapy Program" for veterans was one of the highlights on Saturday afternoon.  We learned about how 25 disabled veterans with physical disabilities have received physical therapy for both their bodies and minds by learning riding skills.  A Sergeant who served in both the Iraqi and Afghanistan wars participated in this program and gave a testimonial presentation on how much it meant to him.

We learned to plan for an "Insightful Day" at Turtle Bay Recreation Area next year on November 4th, 2014. This is a District 4-C1 Lions special project, co-chaired by 1st VDG Larry Marcum and PDG Steve Robeson to assist the visually impaired with finding resources for greater independence in the Northern California Area. The purpose is to raise awareness of the blind and visually impaired in our communities and focus on what Lions do around the world.  There will be a walk to raise funds for LEF CA & NV (Lions Eye Foundation).  Key note speakers will help make this a HUGE success for Lions and the Blind!!!

The Oroville Ophir Lions walked away with a plaque for having donated the most pull tabs (77 pounds)  to the Ronald McDonald House of Charity that provides housing for families of children receiving diabetic treatments.  We were the first to win this progressive plaque available to all clubs in our District.  Our goal is to have our club's name on it again next year!
